What we do

Our programme is varied and we try to cater for all tastes, from complementary therapy to local history, reminiscences of a school teacher to the history and ecology of Bodmin Moor.

We have outings to places of interest, for Christmas shopping and to appreciate the beautiful gardens of Cornwall. Some of our members regularly do litter picks around the village roads in the summer, and we support other village events, ie, the concert, horticultural and craft show, carnival, etc.

The Ladies of the WI also like to support local and County charities by fundraising at coffee mornings and afternoon teas. We have lots of fun on cycle rides, picnics and a fish and chip supper in the summer months and join with other WIs in the area to hold quizzes and joint in spring and autumn. During the winter we play bowls, have wine & cheese and Christmas parties and each January celebrate the founding of our WI in 1942 with a wonderful birthday party, most recently themed on the 40s and 50s.

For those who wish to follow up on an interest, Denman College, the WI's own educational establishment in Oxfordshire, provides year round courses on virtually every subject imaginable, in beautiful surroundings with accommodation of very high quality.

No matter what your interest, the WI caters for all. We are a friendly bunch and welcome visitors to our meetings.

Meetings

We hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, at 7.30pm in the Community Centre, except August, when we arrange more informal events.

WI Group Meeting

15 April 2008     Report and photos: Anne Perisic

Members of St Teath WI hosted the Group Meeting on April 15th in the Church Hall. After an interesting talk on the work of the Smile charity in Romania, followed by copious refreshments, the Strictly Morris Dancing team entertained us with a lively selection of dances, involving bells, hankies and sticks, all accompanied by the talented Helen Brown on her melodeon and Lorraine Jasper on the drum. What the dancers lacked in skill, they more than made up for in enthusiasm and gave their all in a spectacular performance. They were joined by a harmonious group of singers for a rendition of traditional Folk Songs including ‘Sprightly Maids with bouncing busts’, ‘A Cornish Country Garden’ and Lorraine & Heather’s ‘Scrumpy Song’. Their efforts were warmly applauded by an appreciative audience.
