2010/11 Season - Second Team

The wind plays it part!!

23 October, 2010, Padstow 4 - St Teath 1

It was obvious from the start that St Teath would have a tough first half against the wind and a quick, skilful Padstow side.

St Teath Starting Line Up: Lee Griffin (GK), Kevin Kendall (LB), James McDonnell (CB), Mark Hilson (CB), Justin Burden (RB), Dan Edwards (LM), Daniel Skinner (CM), Justin Vague (CM), Mike Titchin (RM), Rhys Bishop (CF), Roger Beare (CF).

St Teath's pre match game plan was undone very early on when a Padstow long ball was calmly lobbed in from 20 yards by Kyle Tippet, St Teath were battling to come to terms with the early goal and found themselves 2-0 down when a ball spread out to the right was taken through on goal and finished calmly at the near post by Jake Charles. St Teath continued to soak up constant pressure from Padstow and fell further behind when a cross from the right was dispatched with a lucky volley from the edge of the box by Chris Allen. St Teath seemed dead and buried when the ref adjudged Mark Hilson to have tripped Jake Charles in the box and awarded Padstow a penalty, Rob Rowe squeezed the spot kick under Lee Griffin in the St Teath goal.4-0 at half time.

St Teath came out after half time with the wind and hopes of a fight back. Rhys Bishop caused constant problems with his skilled footwork and pace, and Dan Edwards found space and time on the left to caused problems to the defence. The Padstow keeper tried to hang on to his clean sheet with a string of fantastic saves from Mike Titchin, Daniel Skinner, James McDonnell and even a possible own goal. St Teath's pressure finally paid off at about 70 minutes when Dan Edwards put a ball over the top for Rhys Bishop to run on too, Rhys out muscled his defender and slotted a calm finish to make it 4-1. St Teath pressed and pressed, and was rewarded with a string of corners, it was from one of these corners that St Teath scored their second, Mike Titchin the corner in that swung to the near post, James McDonnell challenged with the keeper who spilled the ball over the line. There was not enough time left for St Teath to score any more but they went home positive that the game could have gone their way and will build on this in next week's game.

Mad 10 Minutes and missed chances cost St Teath

11 September, 2010, Tregony 4 - St Teath 2

St Teath went into the game at Tregony with hopes of building on their previous 2-1 win at Mount Charles.

St Teath Starting Line Up: Lee Griffin (GK), Kevin Kendall (LB), James McDonnell (CB), Justin Burden (CB), Dave Gardner (RB), Scott Bennett (LM), Neil Polkinghorne (CM), Justin Vague (CM), Mike Titchin (RM), Adie Jeffs (CF), Roger Beare (CF).

St Teath started brightly in the game and seemed to catch Tregony on the back foot. The midfield pairing of Vague and Polkinghorne had time on the ball and spread play to Titchin and Bennett on each wing for them to deliver to the Jeffs and Beare in attack. The best chance came after 20 mins when the ball was spread wide to Titchin on the right and his ball into the box was met by the head of Adie Jeffs who failed to hit the target. Tregony slowly got into the game and started to cause the St Teath defence problems, and it was Tregony who got the break through on 25 mins with a ball that a stretching James McDonnell couldn't cut out leaving the striker to finish one on one with Lee Griffiths in the St Teath goal. St Teath responded immediately when Justin Vague took a shot from the kick off and lobbed the keeper. Vague turned villain five minutes later when he brought down a Tregony player in the box for a penalty, which was dispatched coolly. Tregony went further ahead 2 minutes later when the striker broke through to score from the right hand side of the box.

St Teath came out brightly in the second half and created a number of chances again, however they failed to capitalise, and eventually the found themselves 4-1 down when a ball over the top was finished by Tregony. Despite the 3 goal deficit St Teath continued to press and with five minutes to go Mike Titchin picked up the ball on the half way line and swung the ball into the box, Dan Edwards met the ball and finished at the second attempt.

The game ended 4-2 and St Teath had the long journey to reflect on the chances that went begging. They will hope to perform better in their next game away to Pensilva.

St Teath claims 3 hard earned points

28th Aug 2010, Mount Charles 1 - St.Teath 2

St Teath went into the first game of the season with unknown expectations against a transformed Mount Charles team, and it was easy to spot early on that they had strengthened in all departments from last season.

St Teath Starting Line Up: Lee Griffin (GK), Kevin Kendall (LB), James McDonnell (CB), Justin Burden (CB), Dave Gardner (RB), Dan Edwards (LM), Simon Hunt (CM), Justin Vague (CM), Mike Titchin (RM), Adam Griffin (CF), Roger Beare (CF).

The game started with Mount Charles claiming a majority of possession and causing a lot of problems with clever flicks and off the ball movement. Player/Manager Lee Griffin was kept busy in the St Teath goal and pulled off a number of saves to keep the score to 0-0, a break in the game after 30 minutes for a serious injury on the next pitch allowed St Teath to discuss and reshape, following this they battled and closed down space quicker and went into half time 0-0.

Lee Griffin made both available substitutions at half time bringing Duncan Armstrong and Scott Bennett in to the game. Duncan Went to Left Midfield and Scott partnered Roger Beare in attack. The score at the half time break seem to boost St Teath as their performance improved greatly from the restart, they closed down in all areas and this only frustrated the Mount Charles players, forcing them into long balls to the front pair. The Centre back pairing of Justin Burden and James McDonnell cleared all balls hit long with ease and St Teath started to build attacks of their own. The Mount Charles defence were hassled by the energetic running from Scott Bennett. Midfield duo Justin Vague and Simon Hunt found more time in the middle allowing to find Duncan Armstrong and Mike Titchin on each wing. St Teaths pressure paid off on the hour mark when Justin Vague crossed a ball from the right hand side and Roger Beare bundled the ball over the line, 1-0!! St Teath had to fight as Mount Charles upped their game to get back into the game. They got a break through on 70 minutes when Dave Gardner gave away a penalty for hand ball. The Mount Charles player stepped up to face Lee in goal and struck a fairly weak penalty that Lee saved and held onto from the second attempt. St Teath pushed for a further goal and Mount Charles pushed to equalise, this lead to an exciting final 20mins. St Teath found a second goal when Roger Beare finished with a strong header from a left sided cross. Mount Charles continued to push and caused tension for St Teath when they scored with 5 minutes to go, however St Teath continued to battle and were relieved to hear the final whistle and claim a 2-1 win.

They will hope to build on this going into the next match on 11th September against Tregony

2009/10 Season

Torpoint 2 - St Teath 2

13 March 2010

The match of the day in the Premier Division ended all square with St.Teath fighting back to earn a two all draw at Torpoint. The two teams cancelled each other out in the first half, but Torpoint made a terrific start to the second period and Brian Stacey put them ahead five minutes after the restart. St.Teath rallied and Jamie Kay drew them level, but back came Torpoint and on the hour with a linesman flagging for offside, which the referee overruled, Stacey scored his second. Torpoint were probably the stronger and more experienced team overall, but St.Teath earned what could be a crucial equaliser when a Ted Meagor free kick was spilled by the home keeper and Neil Polkinghorne knocked in the vital goal. The game also featured the return to football of former Bodmin and St.Blazey forward Steve Ovens who completed thirty minutes after his serious injury of two years ago.

St Teath 4 - St Mawgan 0

6 March 2010

St.Teath were held goalless at half time by St.Mawgan despite creating numerous chances. The opening goal came a minute after half time when Jamie Kay ran down the left and crossed for Darren Burden to tap in. Ted Meagor then headed on a ball for James Mountain to double the host's advantage. Another Kay run down the left led to the third goal, again scored by Mountain and then Kay cut in and scored a deserved goal to complete a four nil St.Teath win.

Looe Town 0 - St Teath 2

26 September 2009

St.Teath bounced back from a first defeat last Saturday to record a superb two nil win at Looe Town. Andy Burden caused the main damage with superb work in midfield all afternoon. Karl Spillane got free and took a good Darren Burden pass for the opening goal. Matt Barton went close a couple of times for the home team, but two minutes from time Jamie Kay finally converted one of a few chances that came his way for the visitors second.

St Teath Res 3 - Mount Charles 2

26 September 2009

St Teath Res were hoping to overturn their recent bad run of results at home to Mount Charles. Both sides started well with chances at both ends. Jamie Hewett came closest to scoring for St Teath in the first half with a well timed run into the left side of the box, he cut back onto his right foot and struck a curling shot that clattered onto the cross bar. Mount Charles created chances for themselves but failed to capitalise and both sides were unfortunate to go into the break goalless.

Mount Charles started brightest on the restart and were rewarded when a kick from the keeper was misjudged by James McDonnell and Peter Thomas snuck round to finish one on one with keeper Scott Bennett. Mount Charles continued to turn pressure into possession and eventually took a 2 goal leader when Jake Blythe took on centre back Justin Burden and hit a low shot across the face of goal that went in off the post. 2 goals down St Teath made a change and had to battle hard to try and salvage something. Great link up play between Kevin Kendall and Daniel Skinner all game had created some chances for St Teath and this was the case again when Kevin Kendall overlapped Daniel Skinner and crossed to Adrian Jeffs on the edge of the box, Jeffs turned and curled a top corner shot that left the Mount Charles keeper rooted. Mike Titchin on as a sub should have equalised for St Teath when Jamie Hewett played him through but one on one Mike hit a weak shot at the keeper. Dan Edwards came on as a sub for St Teath and caused problems up front. His efforts were rewarded when he was brought down 30 yards out and a Jamie Hewett freekick was fumbled by the keeper and Dan poked the ball home. At 2-2 St Teath looked for a winner and when Mike Titchin was put through by Hewett again he kept his composure to put the ball home. Mount Charles caused a scare right near the end when a player went through one on one but Scott Bennett was well positioned to save. Either team could have won and Mount Charles will feel unlucky to go home empty handed.

St Teath 2 - St Cleer 1

29 August 2009

St.Teath were without five first team regulars for various reasons in their game at home to St.Cleer but they still managed to scrap to a 2-1 victory. Andy Burden gave them a first half lead from a twenty-five yard free kick and other chances were missed that could have put the game out of the reach of the visiting side. St.Cleer were much better after the break and should have won the game. Dan Ball equalised twenty minutes from time also from a free kick, but with the visitors pushing for the win, Karl Elliott beat the offside trap with three minutes remaining on the clock to give St.Teath the spoils.

St Teath 6 - Foxhole Stars 0

22 August 2009

St.Teath opened their Premier season in style with a six nil defeat of Foxhole. Ted Meagor changed his mind about a move to St.Minver and he capitalized on a bright start for the home team with a goal after three minutes. Meagor added a second from the edge of the box in the thirty-ninth minute and was then let in for his hat trick by a fine Karl Spillane ball. On the stroke of half time Meagor scored his fourth after good work from Spillane and Darren Burden. The young Foxhole side battled throughout and were a credit to their club but they let Meagor in for his fifth goal before James Mountain got on the end of a Spillane cross to complete the rout. St.Teath missed two penalties and had countless other chances and will expect to be in the mix at the end.

St Teath Res 2 - St Columb Minor 2

15 August 2009

St Teath and St Columb Minor both earned a hard fought point in the opening fixture of the season. The opening half an hour saw both sides create chances with St Columb looking the most likely to score. This came on 35 mins when a rare mistake from the usually solid Justin Burden allowed striker Tom Graham through to slot home a good finish.

After half time St Teath came out looking to get a goal back. Jamie Hewett and Justin Vague spread the ball out from central midfield to both flanks trying to find break a through and the front pairing of Adrian Jeffs and Roger Beare chased to try and get on the end of everything, eventually St Teath broke through with a cross from Mike Titchin which was despatched home by Tim Lyle.

St Teath continued to press and the big kicks from Goal Keeper John Wood caused problems at the back and a push from St Columb's keeper gave St Teath a penalty which was put home by Mike Titchin on 70 mins. St Teath made some changes bringing on the young Tom Harris and the returning Daniel Skinner and looked to hold on to the three points whilst St Columb looked to score. St Columb equalised with a good goal from Tom Graham again when he ran passed three players and place a shot through the crowd to the bottom corner to grab a point.
