Parish Walk

4 May 2009

This year's walk proved to be the most popular so far with about 50 people and several dogs taking part. The cool breeze off the sea and overcast sky didn't dampen the enthusiasm of some of the walkers who set off at a cracking pace and had to be slowed down to allow those taking a more leisurely stroll to catch up.

Starting at the Poldark Inn, the route continued across Treligga Downs to Treligga, which probably hadn't seen so many walkers for some time. We walked across the fields and onto National Trust land to join the coastal path above Tregardock beach and on to the precipitous valley below Dannon Chapel. Some followed the more demanding route up the bottom of the this isolated valley, an area of special interest because of its fauna, while others made their way along the top of the valley to Tregragon Farm for welcome refreshments. The return to Poldark was then across fields to the downs again.

Many thanks to Gill Jones for organising the walk and Hester Warman and Jen Tidd, who skillfully and magnificently catered for over 50, rather than the expected 30, walkers. Donations will go to local organisations.
